A Child After my own Heart

In August of 2011, I felt led to sponsor a second child.  This time I was looking for a girl with above average school performance, preferably Spanish-speaking and from a large family.  There were very few that fit the category, but I found one that I knew was supposed to be "mine."

This is Dayana in Ecuador, she was 10 years old, above average in school, enjoys reading (I'm an avid reader) and lives with her parents and four siblings. Funny irony-I got a letter from her this week admitting she actually does not like to read. Something got mixed up somewhere, but the poor girl had to read all my ramblings about liking to read!

Over the past nine months, this amazing 11 year old has completely stolen my heart.  She has so much compassion, wisdom, and inspiration beyond her years.  I have been so extremely blessed by this amazing young lady.  I have the awesome privilege of meeting her in August when I take a trip with Compassion International Sponsors to Ecuador.  I cannot wait to give this wonderful young lady a hug!

Daniela's Story

When I finally listened to God's call to sponsor a child in March of 2011, I spent hours and hours searching through the hundreds of precious faces on the Compassion International website.  I had an ideal child in mind--a girl, age 5-10, a head full of braids, and preferably from a large family.  I actually found her.  Her name was Ana, she was 7 years old from the Dominican Republic. However, I also found another little girl that I simply couldn't ignore.  She lives in Colombia with her parents and 3 siblings, and she has the face of an angel.

After much prayer and thought, this 6 year old Colombian sweetheart became the first member of my Compassion Family.  I sent off my "meet your sponsor" packet but I struggled to write my first letter.  Once I received her first letter, my heart was hooked.  This sweet little girl made writing a breeze.

Now, over a year later, I have had many wonderful letters from Daniela and her mother.  I will never forget the first time she "sent me hugs and kisses" or told me she loved me very much.  This little girl started my Compassion journey and I cannot wait for the many more blessings she will bring to my life.

Beginning of an Adventure of a Life Time

Welcome to my blog "Love for the Least of These."

I believe God has called me to love the least of these through my sponsorship with Compassion International.  My adventure began in March of 2011 with a tugging on my heart to sponsor ONE child.  That ONE child stole my heart and refused to give it back.  I never knew a child half a world a way could have such an impact on my life. ONE child turned into TWO, TWO into THREE...I now have the privilege of sponsoring three beautiful little girls in South America and corresponding with three more children all around the world.  These children children have touched my heart in a way I never dreamed possible.

I'm starting this blog so I can share my amazing journey with others.  I plan to share letters, stories, and photographs of my Compassion family and others from the Compassion community. Check out my "My Children" page to learn a little bit about each member of my beautiful Compassion family.

Matthew 25:35-40:
35'For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I need clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
37"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'
40"The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'
